Come Aboard, Mateys, to Book Study Mondays!

Argh!  Are ye ready for another series of Book Study Mondays? Teach Like a PIRATE by Dave Burgess will transform your classroom!  Check out some of these great quotes:
I can walk by the open door of a classroom and tell you after a couple of minutes whether the teacher is a lifeguard or a swimmer.  A lifeguard sits above the action and supervises the pool deck.
For most of us, creative genius is developed through hard work, directed attention, and relentless engagement in the creative process.
For example, if you notice that your class is not engaged by your presentation, it isn't helpful or empowering to blame your students.  Obviously, if they're not engaged, they are providing you with some critical feedback: what you are doing is not engaging for this audience, on this day.  Try to evaluate and learn from that feedback without taking it too personally.
If you're ready to walk the plank, grab yourself a copy of the book and join me back here next Monday night for Chapter 1.

    1. It is applicable to ALL teachers! He is high school teacher, but any teacher who wants to improve could benefit from it. You can actually look inside it at Amazon and read a little.

  8. Oh, I'm so excited! I read this book on my kindle over Christmas break after you recommended it. :) I'll be leading a professional development course for my district on this book later in the spring. The conversations here on your blog will definitely give me new insights and help me prepare to share this with my teachers! I hope it's okay if I refer people to these posts and share some of the conversations that come up! If you have any concerns about this Donna, shoot me an e-mail. I don't want to encroach upon your hard work!

My actual, hard copy book came in the mail today... I can't wait to dive into it a second time and fill it with highlights and post-its. When I find a text that is so valuable and full of ideas, I need the 'real' book (not the e-book) in my hands to mark up! lol!
